African Youth Sports Academy brought children, parents, volunteers, and community members together at Delridge Playfield in Seattle for our 2026 Village Family Barbecue. The gathering included storytelling, cultural activities, food, soccer, and time for families to connect.
The barbecue was an opportunity to spend time together beyond regular sports sessions and strengthen the community around AYSA’s young people.

Storytelling and cultural activities were part of the gathering. Including these activities reflects AYSA’s commitment to making cultural expression part of our work with young people and families.
Through our Community & Culture programming, we aim to create opportunities for young people to connect with their heritage and for families to participate in shared community experiences.
Time for families to connect
Alongside the storytelling and cultural activities, families shared food and participated in outdoor activities at Delridge Playfield, including its playground area.
The gathering offered a setting for parents, children, and community members to meet and spend time together. These opportunities matter to AYSA because our youth programs grow through relationships with families and the people who support them.
